Here at Discount Motoring we can supply and fit all our suppliers’ alarms and immobilisers to Thatcham Category 1 & 2 Insurance requirements. We are members of the VSIB, who regulate and approve the installation of security products.

Without the correct VSIB insurance documentation certain insurance companies can reject cover against theft. Others will only allow discounts on VSIB approved installs. The VSIB are also approved by the Home Office. Always select a local VSIB approved installer for quality workmanship guaranteed.

We also recommend that customers beware of certain mobile installers who can often be here today and gone tomorrow without any recourse on the quality of the install or the guarantee. Turnaround time on alarms and immobilisers is usually one to three hours depending on the system.

Vehicle security is an issue that has affected almost everyone who owns or drives a motor vehicle. Over the years technology has had to evolve, almost on a daily basis, in an attempt to keep ahead of the car thief as they have become more sophisticated in their methods to steal.

You may own a vehicle that has a factory installed security system as standard which works very well and offers peace of mind. But please consider this – that system was installed on the production line in exactly the same way as all of the other vehicles of that model – there could be tens of thousands of them. All have the alarm control unit and wiring runs including immobilisation circuits in exactly the same place.

THIS IS A POTENTIAL WEAKNESS - If a car thief has been able to beat one of them he can now beat them all. We believe that an effective security system must meet certain requirements:

  • The specification must be comprehensive in terms of security and comfort
  • The components and build quality must be the best available
  • The technology must be "leading edge"

The installation is a vital security ingredient which, when carried out by an authorised dealer, will introduce an element of individuality which will make any potential thief’s attempt at stealing your vehicle considerably more difficult. A factory installed system offers security; a system installed by a specialist installer offers a much higher level of security.
