Jargon Explained:

• RDS – Radio Data System: Traffic information system on FM. Shows station name display and delivers traffic bulletins.
• EON – Enhanced Other Networks. Allows interruption of RDS bulletins from other local stations.
• PTY – Programme type e.g. Classics, Light Music, Others.
• Text Ready – Reads and displays text e.g. artist name and song title on a CD.
• Preamp Output – A pre-amp output (pre-out) on a head unit allows the addition of an amp or other peripherals when system building.
• MP3 – MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3) is a data format for compressing and storing data. Using MP3 format, the equivalent of 10 normal CD’s can be stored on a single CD-R disc.
• WMA – WMA (Windows Media Audio) is an audio encoding/decoding system enabling compression of data on a CD to up to 1/20 its original volume.
• MP3/WMA DVD – Supports playback of MP3 or WMA files burned on a DVD. Approximately 1000 songs can be stored on a DVD.
